Chris Peasley is a seasoned professional with over 38 years of experience in the retail food industry. His extensive background spans roles with the world’s largest retailer, a regional organic cooperative, and the largest grocery chain in the United States. Before transitioning to retail, Chris spent six years in the food service industry as a Sous Chef, further deepening his expertise in food operations and safety.
In February 2018, Chris joined the GDA's Food Safety Division as the Retail Food Program Manager. In his role, he is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Rules of the Georgia Department of Agriculture, along with all applicable laws and food safety best practices. He oversees the safety and wholesomeness of food products sold across the state, leading a team that includes three District Managers, one Special Processes Consultant, three District Administrators, and 41 Retail Compliance Specialists. His leadership ensures that Georgia's retail food establishments maintain the highest standards of food safety and defense.
Chris is an active member of several industry organizations, contributing to his expertise in advancing food safety policies and best practices. His involvement includes:
• Association for Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) – Served on the Product Labeling Committee (2018–2019), active and participating member.
• Association for Food and Drug Officials Southern States (AFDOSS), active and participating member.
• Georgia Environmental Health Association (GEHA) – Annual speaker and Exhibits Coordinator (2019–2020), active and participating member.
• Conference for Food Protection (CFP) – Voting delegate and former member of the Produce Wash Water Committee (2018–2020). Active and participating member, 2025 Council I Alternate.
