Food and Drug Section Director

Sofia Stifflemire serves as the Food and Drug Section Director with the Consumer Protection Division within the Texas Department of State Health Services. She oversees the Seafood, Consumable Hemp, Retail Food Operations, Milk and Dairy Programs, Manufactured Food Programs, and the Drugs and Medical Device Programs. She has over 18 years of experience in administrative, operations, and management roles within various Consumer Protection Division programs.
In addition to her accomplishments at DSHS, Sofia has earned universal respect within the national Milk and Dairy regulatory community. She serves on the Executive Board for the National Conference for Interstate Milk Shippers (NCIMS), the National Association of Dairy Regulatory Officials (NADRO), where she currently serves as Vice President and is scheduled to be President beginning July of 2025, and the Dairy Practices Council. Within the past year, Sofia had the distinct honor of being one of four state employees nationwide selected to serve on the FDA's Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) Response Tiger Team.
Outside of work, Sofia is happily married and is a mother to a four-year-old boy. She and her family enjoy spending time outdoors and are American the Beautiful pass holders. Their goal is to visit all the national parks. To date, they have crossed 13 off of the list.
